The Chart of Lucy Letby
This is the chart we have (so far) of Lucy Letby, the neonatal nurse found guilty of killing seven newborn babies and attempting to murder six more.
It’s not the chart you’d expect to see, on first impression, for someone guilty of something so heinous - which is a good reminder that just as a gentle face can hide murderous intent (something that led many to believe she was innocent), the natal chart can, at face value, suggest a similar innocuous vibe.
If we get a birth time, we can fine-tune the findings, but this is what I see so far:
The Capricorn stellium reflects the professional with a position of power and responsibility. Maturity, commitment, status-oriented; a truly hard worker. She would often pick up extra shifts and work long hours - she herself said she ‘loved working’. The Aries Moon squaring all these Capricorn planets is a battle between the needy, childish, tantrum-throwing and selfish or petulant brat versus the stoic, serious, and responsible, if at times controlling or curmudgeonly, adult.
Aries Moons come from a lineage of the conflict-trained, those who work close to danger, or who use weapons or have had to fight. Sun square Moon adds to this battle with the self - this alignment reflects parents in conflict at the time of conception, and sets up a lifetime of internal unrest and dissatisfaction, yet an immense drive to achieve (which is also a classic Capricorn signature). Who they are or have to be, is continually clashing with what they really need and feel.
A simple synopsis during a reading with this client would be: “Watch your anger. It will undermine your position and reputation and potentially sabotage all you have built. Aries moon-squaring all those Capricorn planets.“
Sun-Neptune suggests a shaky sense of self, prone to playing the victim or rescuer, and the ability to be a highly skilled deceiver both of the self and others, throwing up smokescreens and camouflaging; often these folk can hide in plain sight, if they so choose.
Sun opposing Chiron (wounds/healing) in Cancer (motherhood, nurturing, protector, family, and feelings) makes for an ideal neonatal nurse, but the opposition is a projection - others must have the wounds and the pain so we don’t have to, or so we can be better, or so that we can be the healer.
The Capricorn side displaced Cancer’s emotional pain onto others - handwritten notes found in her home said no one understood her or how inadequate she truly felt (further Neptune victim embodiment and self-hate, an extension of the south node in egoic Leo, for she never sought help or told anyone how she felt).
Planets square the lunar nodes MUST be integrated this lifetime, our growth hangs in the balance - they are instrumental in our evolution (north node) or devolution (south node).
Pluto in Scorpio (the sign it rules over) squares the Leo South node: destructive urges, a death wish, darker desires, or a profound hunger for power, deep change or transformation can be used to serve narcissistic needs for attention (Leo South) or for a higher, altruistic social cause (Aquarius North).
The Phoenix-Angel of Transformative Rehabilitation became a Demon of Death instead. Either way, she has imprinted on society (Aquarius north node), and pursuing Pluto, is what took her there.
The debilitated Moon, with all its friction and conflict-oriented squares, is a therapist's dream but a living nightmare - for our Moon is our comfort in our own body, in our life, in our family, and our place in this world. Our entire sense of belonging is built on it. The square from the moon to Chiron in Cancer (the sign the moon itself rules over) is a mashup of Aries anger/abuse/violence/danger with themes of home/family/motherhood/safety. In an interview, the mother of one of the victims said that Lucy ‘seemed angry’ that she had failed to kill their other child and had to continue caring for it.
This could be the one who both protects the family and hurts the family - domestic defense or domestic abuser. Who knows if we will ever get a satisfactory motive or reason behind her actions. Couldn’t have kids? Hated the attention both the happy parents and needy babies were given? Wanted to play god as both a protective and vengeful mother, sustaining life or ending it at will? Does evil have a reason besides an agenda to destroy life? Her handwritten notes said “I am evil, I did this”.
She injected some babies with milk to kill them, others with air: two life-giving requirements a newborn baby needs, used to rob them of life instead.
The debilitated Aries moon here is a true pathology that would take many moons to fully figure out, but it is clear that the baby killer, preying on defenseless newborns in her care, was the biggest baby. Instead of trying to heal or even harm herself, she found gratification in destroying the most vulnerable and defenceless instead.
Psychology textbooks and history lessons show us time and again how destructive, damaged children wandering around in adult bodies with access to adult tools are a true threat, turning what is harmless and even healing, into weapons of mass destruction.
